Meeting my Nutritionist for the First Time

Today was a pretty big day for me. After finding out I had Hashimoto’s, I knew I was going to have to do a bit extra than most people in order to find my way with weight loss. I am a person who absolutely needs structure, I thrive off of it. So a few weeks ago I scheduled my appointment with a nutritionist. Today was that appointment.

I don’t know what I expected but Dr. C was nothing that I thought he would be. He was an old, Italian Jewish man who was in his 60s and was a politically incorrect as they come and to be the cherry on top he was from New York. I loved him! I appreciated his up North candor and he had no qualms about it when I gave it right back.

He really took the time to explain to me how the foods I choose to eat were going to directly affect my body especially while I’m not on any hormone replacements. What I loved most is how passionate he was about good nutrition (almost as passionate as his stance on healthcare in America lol). I also loved that while weight loss is a goal; it wasn’t the most important goal.

The conversation was fluid, and an understanding was developed between us which I believe is key if this is gonna be the person I’m entrusting my dietary health to. He was very knowledgeable about what my body was going through and it was nice to have someone who understood without my having to go into a deep explanation.

I actually felt motivated by the end of our 2.5 hour session; which is a huge positive because lately I’ve been feeling anything but motivated. I’m scheduled to see him again by the 20th of next month. By then I should have lost between 6 and 8 lbs.  Totally looking forward to having something positive to say after that visit.

Today, things are looking up; and for now that’s good enough for me!
